Minneapolis police are looking for a suspect who kidnapped a 7-year-old girl outside a home in north Minneapolis Saturday afternoon, and then released her a few hours later, WCCO reports.

The girl did not appear to be harmed, but she was crying when she was reunited with her family.

According to police spokesman John Elder, the girl was playing with some friends in front of a house near the intersection of 30th and James, when a man approached the children and asked the girl to help him look for a lost puppy.

The girl left with the man and they were last seen heading south on James Avenue.

When the girl's mother found out her daughter was gone, about 15 minutes later, she called police, Elder said, adding that they "used all our resources available searching for her."

Elder said about two hours later, the man “dropped her and took off,” according to the Star Tribune. He said the girl was questioned by police for information about the suspect.

The suspect was described by police as a white male in his mid-30s with a blotchy or reddish complexion. He was wearing a black jacket with horizontal stripes.
