A suspect running from police surrendered after an officer in pursuit fired a bullet at him.
Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder says the incident unfolded at 7:10 p.m. Friday when police officers came upon a large group of people near Aldrich Avenue North and 30th Avenue North in north Minneapolis.
As the officers approached the group scattered, but not before one of the officers saw an individual with a handgun. A foot pursuit began and at one point the suspect pulled the gun with one of the officers responding by firing a shot at the suspect, missing.
The suspect dropped his gun, surrendered and was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.
The officer who fired their weapon has not been identified and has been placed on standard administrative leave.
