Minneapolis police say they're investigating a cell phone video in which an officer is heard threatening to break the legs of a teenaged suspect if he tries to run away.

The 30-second video, which contains profanity, has been circulating on social media. It was reportedly posted to Twitter by 17-year-old Faysal Mohamed, who also shared it with FOX 9.

Mohamed, a junior at Edina High School, tells FOX he was in a car with three friends after playing basketball at a YMCA on Minneapolis' south side March 18.

One of those friends, Hamza Jeylani, tells MPR News he recorded the video. Jeylani says the group made a U-turn to avoid a police car but were pulled over and handcuffed while officers searched their vehicle.

The unidentified officer can be heard saying: "Plain and simple, if you [expletive] with me, I'm going to break your legs before you get the chance to run."

When one of the teens asks why he's being arrested, the officer responds "Because I feel like arresting you."

FOX reports the officers later told the group they were suspected of stealing the car but no one was arrested.

The Star Tribune reports a spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department said an internal affairs investigation is underway but would not comment on the content of the video.

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the case.
