Update: Suspect arrested, no one injured in Minneapolis officer-involved shooting

Officers say they fired when a man drove his car straight at them.

Minneapolis police say there was gunfire involving one of their officers Friday night.

It happened on the city's south side at Ogema Place and E.M. Stately Street around 7:30 p.m. Authorities say no one was injured in the shooting.

Police explain people had been reporting robberies and gunshots. Then officials saw a vehicle speeding so they turned on their emergency lights to stop the car. Police say the vehicle stopped for a while in a parking lot, but then it turned to face the officers' squad "head on."

The officers got out of their vehicle and started giving verbal commands to the suspect. However, police say the car accelerated, driving straight for the officers.

That's when police say an officer fired his handgun at the vehicle, and the suspect drove away.

The car was later found several blocks away and a 26-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail on probable cause of a felony assault.

The officers involved have been placed on leave while the incident is investigated, Minneapolis police say.

There is body camera footage of this incident.
