Minneapolis teen shot, killed blocks from Fridley High School

There is no threat to the public, the sheriff's office says.

A teenager boy was shot and killed in what the Fridley Police Department is calling a murder.

The shooting happened Thursday just before 5:45 p.m., with 911 callers reporting multiple shots fired in the area of 6100 5th Street Northeast, which is just a couple of blocks west of Fridley High School and Fridley Community Center.

Police arrived to the scene and found a 17-year-old Minneapolis boy with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's identity will be released pending proper notification of family members.

"At this time, the case does not appear random and the public is not at risk," says Lt. Dan Douglas of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.

The press release did not indicate that any arrests have been made, nor is it clear if a suspect(s) has been identified.

The case remains under investigation by the Fridley Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
