Nicollet Mall will be all lit up Thanksgiving night in downtown Minneapolis, and the city is giving drivers a unique opportunity to take in the sights, KARE-TV reported.

The mall will be open to motorists from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. Thursday so they drive and view more than a half million of twinkle lights and other holiday decorations made possible by the Downtown Improvement District Ambassadors.

A Minneapolis city ordinance allows vehicles to drive down Nicollet Mall one night a year, which is traditionally set aside for Thanksgiving night. A 10 mph speed limit will be enforced.

Normally, Nicollet Mall only allows buses, taxis and emergency vehicles.
