As the microbrewery industry becomes more popular in Minnesota, beer makers are concerned a state law could penalize their success, KARE 11 reports. If production exceeds 3,500 barrels a year, breweries can no longer seller growlers or any packaged beer directly from the brewery.

"We simply want to be able to continue what we are doing today in a year from now when we go over that limit," said Jim Diley, co-owner of Fulton Brewery in Minneapolis.

Surly Brewing in Brooklyn Center has already reached the production cap and can no longer sell growlers.

Dan Schwarz of Lift Bridge Brewery in Stillwater told KSTP, "It is a great source of revenue for us and it really does help us grow and it helps us to buy more equipment and invest in more people."

The Minnesota Brewers Association is pushing lawmakers to change the measure and has launched a "Save the Growler" campaign.

Speaking of success, WCCO reports Brit's Pub claims it sells the most Newcastle Brown Ale in the world. The popular bar in downtown Minneapolis will host a celebration on March 1.
