Minnesota boy cited for discharging firearm after shooting air soft gun

A North Mankato man is speaking up after his 12-year-old son was cited by police after shooting his air soft gun. Mike Johnston's says he knows of the potential dangers of guns, but he believes authorities went too far for prosecuting his son, Dyllon, in juvenile court for discharging a firearm in public. The boy was cited after a 19-year-old neighborhood woman called police to complain.

Police claim the man, who had allegedly been experiencing a mental health crisis, was armed with a knife.

There have been reports of disabled traffic lights and issues at local businesses.

Crockett made the comments in a 2020 radio interview following a ruling from the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Gender Justice, the advocacy group that brought about the lawsuit, says it will appeal the decision.

Daniel Hamman is now charged with shooting a protected animal. The 26-year-old allegedly shot a cougar last November. The Worthington Daily Globe reports the DNR was contacted after some photos of the 125-pound male cat were posted on Facebook.

A criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court says a St. Paul father has been charged with child endangerment after his 9-year-old son shot his 2-year-old brother in the head with a gun left in an unlocked cabinet. The complaint says the older boy pointed the gun -- which he thought was empty -- at the younger boy's head and pulled the trigger.

The family tells WCCO that 16-year-old Jawon Osborne was shot in the leg just last week. He was shot to death on Monday while walking to his mother's house. Police don't have any suspects in custody.

When 5-year-old Brandon Chartrand, of Farmington, went into his mother’s purse to find the $4 he needed to get into a local pool, he found the family's $1,400 cash mortgage payment and stuffed it all in his swim trunks. An alert pool cashier notified his parents that their son was trying to gain admission with huge wads of cash.

42-year-old Daniel Schlienz shot and injured three people after trial proceedings of a sexual assault case where he stood as the defendant. Schlienz father says the trial had taken its toll on his son and he had become suicidal.

The day after a gunman killed six people at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee, much of the response in Minnesota involved conversations about faith and firearms. Some in Minnesota's Sikh community hope the spotlight that's now trained on their faith will improve public understanding of Sikhs and make them less likely to be taken for Muslims. One Minnesotan in Congress hopes the tragedy leads the country toward tighter gun controls.
