Minnesota corn growers cashing in
Most corn growers in Minnesota are about to have a profitable year: Drought has helped drive corn prices higher nationwide, and Minnesota farms – which largely escaped devastating drought – are producing high yields compared to operations in other states, WCCO reports.
The Oct. 11 USDA crop report showed significant increases for both corn and soybean yields in Minnesota, as compared to September crop report, Corn and Soybean Digest reports. Minnesota farmers expect to harvest a record 1.39 billion bushels of corn, the USDA says.
Southwest farmer Scott Johnson told the Associated Press that this year's crop "went better than we thought it would – by a long ways – that's for sure."
