Minnesota's corn harvest is running slightly above the harvest's average over the past five years, The Associated Press reports.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says 73 percent of the corn for grain has been harvested, in comparison to the five-year average of 72 percent.

In addition, the USDA says farmers were able to harvest 25 percent of their corn for grain in the week ending Sunday.

Crop harvests are also running above average in the state for soybeans, sugar beets and sunflowers, the agency says.

According to the West Central Tribune, the USDA reports 73 percent of the corn crop has been taken in nationally. The numbers were calculated with information taken from the 18 states that produce the vast majority of the crop.
