Minnesota egg company's business soars after Super Bowl ad contest

A northern Minnesota egg company that finished runner-up in a contest to gain national exposure on Super Bowl Sunday is pretty happy with its consolation prize.

Locally Laid Egg Co., a Wrenshall-based company, was beat out by California-based GoldieBlox, a company that makes toys aimed at teaching girls about engineering, for Intuit's "Small Business Big Game competition" for Super Bowl Sunday.

The company's runner-up prize was a professionally produced commercial that started airing nationally on May 12 and will run through June 25, the company says.

The "get locally laid" slogan is catchy, and the commercial is only helping the already successful company.

"We've had enormous demand for our product, not just in Minnesota, but we're expanding," co-owner Jason Amundsen told WCCO.

Amundsen says every week he gets new orders from restaurants and retailers, and the company has plans to grow from its northern Minnesota farm to seven locations by the end of 2014, WCCO reports.

Currently, Locally Laid Eggs are sold in stores in the Twin Cities, northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana. Restaurants in the Twin Cities and northland also serve up the company's eggs. Click here to see a list of locations.
