Minnesota lawmakers have rare opportunity to preserve piece of land

The 2,000-acre site is just north of Brainerd along three miles of undeveloped Mississippi shoreline. It's owned by Potlatch Corp., the timberland management company. The Star Tribune reports the DNR first identified the Mississippi Northwoods ten years ago, but then the land wasn't for sale and the state didn't have the funds to buy it. Now, lawmakers have the option to purchase the property for $14 million from the Legacy Act's Outdoor Heritage Fund.
