A 71-year-old man from Minnesota has died while snorkeling in Florida.

Michael John McCormick, of Slayton, was snorkeling with a family member in shallow waters off Geiger Key on Friday afternoon.

He died after becoming separated from his relative, who called 911 after he went missing, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

His body was found by a boater, who brought him and the family member to the local marina around 3:45 p.m.

CPR was performed but McCormick was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
