Minnesota man blows hand off with homemade explosive

The man was taken by Life Link helicopter to St. Cloud Hospital.

A central Minnesota man was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital on Sunday after blowing his hand off with a homemade explosive, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.

The medical emergency happened around 5 p.m. on the 42000 block of County Road 36 in rural Emily, Minnesota. Deputies arrived at the scene and found a man "who had received extensive injuries to his left hand."

He was treated until paramedics arrived and took over, later airlifting him via a Life Link helicopter to St. Cloud Hospital.

Additional explosive materials were found around the man's yard and home, prompting the Crow Wing County Bomb Squad to secure and process the scene.

No further information is available and the man's current condition is unknown.
