A Minnesota man is in the process of building the world's tallest ice sculpture.

Roger Hanson, of Big Lake, Minnesota, is a software developer and has engineered a process to great the 70-foot glacier-shaped ice sculpture on Barker's Island in Superior, Wisconsin, according to the city's website.

The tallest ice sculpture in the world measured 53 feet, 2.58 inches and was achieved by the People's Government of Yichun City, in Yichun, China, on Jan. 19, 2010, according to Guinness World Records. The sculpture was in the shape of a dinosaur.

Hanson developed a robot that will help build the ice sculpture and protect it from high winds, WDIO notes. He's been working on the sculpture for almost a month – it's expected to be completed in February.

The City of Superior and the Superior Tourism Development Fund contracted Hanson to build the Lake Superior Ice Project. The city is hoping the tourist attraction will boost the local economy this winter, according to the city's website.

People can follow Hanson's progress on his Facebook page and on his website.

Hanson has been building sculptures similar to the one planned for Superior in his backyard for years. In 2011, he garnered national attention when he was featured on the Today Show.
