Minnesota man dies climbing Montana's highest peak

The man fell to his death over the weekend.

An experience mountain climber from Minnesota fell to his death while scaling the highest peak in Montana on Saturday.

According to the Billings Gazette, the 65-year-old's identity has not been released, but Park County officials say he slipped and fell about 150 feet while he and his son attempted to climb Granite Peak – a 12,807-foot peak in the Beartooth Range of the northern Rocky Mountains.

They were approximately 200 feet from the summit when he fell Saturday afternoon.

The man's son was able to contact the sheriff's office around 2 a.m. Sunday after climbing down from the peak to get cellphone reception.

Bad weather has delayed an aerial team's ability to recover the Minnesotan's body.

Bring Me The News has reached out to the Park County Sheriff's Office for more information.
