A father-of-two was killed in a work accident near Hewitt, Minnesota, over the weekend.

The fatal incident happened just after 7 p.m. Saturday, when Aaron Broughton, 33, was in a trench laying water lines.

The trench then collapsed, with Broughton pronounced dead at the scene, according to a media release from the Todd County Sheriff's Office.

A GoFundMe campaign explains that Broughton was working with his father, building a new home for his family when the trench collapsed.

He leaves behind a wife and two young children, ages 3 and 1, respectively.

"Like every other weekend past year, Aaron had been diligently piecing together the next steps of his family's future together on their beautiful piece of farmland in Minnesota," the online fundraiser says.

Money from the fundraiser will be used to complete the home Broughton was building, "as a memorial to Aaron so their children can remember their father."

As of Tuesday morning, the fundraiser had generated $6,700 of a $9,000 goal.

The incident remains under investigation by the Todd County Sheriff's Office.
