Nicholas Dickhut, a 23-year-old Army sergeant, was killed in combat with Taliban fighters on Sunday. Dickhut was six months into his second deployment. He had just been featured in a photo essay by the Reuters news service on Friday.
A 26-year-old soldier killed in Afghanistan on Sept. 13 was a student at Minnesota State University Mankato. Sgt. Kyle B. Osborn of Lafayette, Indiana was a civil engineering student but dropped out after two years to join the military. Funeral services will be held in Indiana.
