Minnesota National Guard members are headed to Texas

Rescue efforts continue after Hurricane Harvey.

Soldiers with the Minnesota National Guard are headed to Texas to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Eleven soldiers from the 34th Combat Aviation Brigade left from St. Cloud Friday on two CH-47 chinook helicopters, a news release says. They'll be conducting aviation operations in Texas.

Gov. Mark Dayton approved sending the soldiers, with the release noting they'll stay as long as they're needed.

The Minnesota National Guard soldiers will join others from across the U.S. who've gone to Texas to help out after Harvey made landfall a week ago, dumping 1 trillion gallons of water on Harris County, Texas, in just four days.

Officials have said at least 46 people died due to the storm, the New York Times says, while thousands have been rescued.
