Minnesota pilot killed in airplane crash near La Crosse
A pilot was killed in a single-engine plane crash in rural northern La Crosse County Thursday.
The La Crosse Tribune reports the pilot, currently not identified, is from Minnesota and was the only passenger on board. The plane was on the way to Appleton, Wisconsin, from Willmar, Minnesota.
Firefighters and other emergency responders found the plane at about 6:15 p.m. with the pilot's remains nearby, WKOW says.
This crash comes on the same day that two men from New Mexico were injured in another small plane crash, this time at Fond du Lac County Airport in southeastern Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says.
The higher amount of plane traffic, especially with smaller craft, is because of the EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
The fly-in air show and convention is called the world's "greatest aviation celebration" and is being held from July 25 to July 31.
The event attracts everything from warbirds, vintage, homebuilt and ultralight planes.
The National Transportation Safety Board said in a release they expect more than 500,000 people and more than 10,000 aircraft during the AirVenture.
