If Tuesday's wind chill didn't convince you, here's another sign that winter is around the corner.

The Wild Mountain ski area near Taylors Falls plans to open its slopes at 3 p.m. Tuesday, the first resort in the Midwest to open for ski season, resort officials say.

A resort web cam Tuesday morning showed some snow-making (but also green grass).

Trollhaugen resort near Dresser, Wis., is also close to opening, according to its Facebook page.

Wild Mountain prides itself on being among the first to leap into the winter season. Last year, Wild Mountain officials claimed to be the first in the nation to open on Oct. 7.

The resort's latest season opening was Nov. 20 in 2001, the Star Tribune reports.
