Minnesota state rep cuts off 3 fingers in power saw accident
State Rep. Erin Koegel cut off three fingers on her left hand in a power saw accident.
Koegel, a Spring Lake Park resident who represents the DFL in District 37A, was using a power saw on August 22 when she lost control of the tool and cut off the middle, ring and pinky fingers on her left hand.
An online fundraiser for Koegel explains that she was "very lucky" to have a trained EMT nearby "who immediately helped get Erin stable and stop the bleeding."
A medical helicopter landed on Hwy. 11 in Longville and transported Koegel to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale for emergency surgery.
A surgeon was able to reattach her middle finger but the other two digits couldn't be saved.
Donations to the GoFundMe will help Koegel hire someone to help her take care of her 2-year-old daughter while she recovers.
