Minnesota still among most expensive states for gasoline

Minnesota drivers are still paying some of the highest gas prices in the country.

The Star Tribune cites AAA’s daily survey, which says Minnesota's average fuel price is $4.27 per gallon -- the highest in the Lower 48 states. The Twin Cities metro is even higher at $4.31.

That's more than 60 cents above AAA's national average of $3.63.

Drivers in Hawaii are paying the most at $4.35 per gallon, the newspaper reports.

But here's some good news: one expert thinks Twin Cities gas prices have peaked and should dip later this week or in early June, WCCO reports.

According to the tracking web site GasBuddy.com, the national average is $3.67, the Pioneer Press reports.

The Duluth News Tribune says the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices has the national average price at $3.66. The survey showed Tucson, Ariz., has the nation's lowest average price for gas at $3.18.

Stations in Burnsville, Forest Lake and Minnetonka are charging the highest price in the metro at $4.49. The lowest price found in the Twin Cities is $4.09.

Analysts blame extended repairs at two refineries in the Chicago-area for driving up gas prices. The spike has prompted U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar to press the Energy Department to take action.

People in the Twin Ports are speculating about whether gas prices could affect tourism this summer, WDIO reports.
