A 13-year-old boy remains hospitalized nearly a week after being stabbed by a 16-year-old boy in northern Minnesota last week.
The stabbing happened Thursday, Oct. 8, in the area of 800 Miners Drive in Ely, according to the city's police department.
A 911 caller informed police that he was hiking and found a boy who appeared to have fallen down a ravine near Miners Lake, and that the boy was suffering from a leg injury. The victim, who was conscious but confused, was initially unable to recount what happened, but first responders found additional injuries that were consistent with stab wounds.
The 13-year-old, who eventually remembered being assaulted, was transported by ambulance to the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital before being airlifted to Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, where he remains and is in stable condition.
Officers from Ely Police Department located the 16-year-old suspect at a residence in Ely, at which point the teen was taken into custody without incident. He's currently being held at Arrowhead Juvenile Center in Duluth and has been charged with second-degree attempted murder.
