A woman attempting to evade authorities in a stolen tractor was arrested early Thursday and booked into the Clay County Jail in northwestern Minnesota.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a stolen tractor – a John Deere 4320 – just after 3:30 a.m. in the area of 100th Ave. and 250th St. S., which is south of Hawley and west of Rollag.
The owner of the tractor said someone was driving his equipment, having stolen it from where it was parked in a bean field.
Deputies tried to make a traffic stop but the woman fled through fields, never out of the sight of law enforcement, however. Eventually, deputies directed the woman out of the field and into a swampy area where the tractor got stuck.
The 31-year-old Warroad woman is facing charges of motor vehicle theft, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, and criminal damage to property. She also had two outstanding warrants, the sheriff's office said.
