Minnesota woman dies in head-on crash near Canadian border

One person is dead following a head-on crash in northwest Minnesota. 

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the collision happened just after 5:45 p.m. on Hwy. 172 near Rainy River, which is located in far northern Minnesota in Lake of the Woods County. 

A 23-year-old man driving a 2008 Chevy Silverado was northbound on Hwy. 172 when it crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2016 Toyota Highlander. 

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. She's been identified as 42-year-old Cynthia Anne McDougall of Baudette, Minnesota. 

The driver of the truck, who is from Isle, Minnesota, was taken to Lakewood Health Center for treatment, although the crash report lists his injuries as "none." 

It's unknown if alcohol factored in the crash, nor does the crash report say if either party was wearing a seatbelt. 

Highway 172 runs adjacent to Minnesota's border with Canada. 

Acccording to the latest data from the Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety, there have been 177 deaths on Minnesota roads so far in 2019. That number is down from what it was at the same time last year (184).
