Minnesota's new cider guild is planning a summer festival

The Craft Cider Festival is the only festival in the state dedicated to cider – a gluten-intolerant person's dream.

The newly formed Minnesota Cider Guild is organizing a week to celebrate all things cider.

This isn't the first Minnesota Cider Week – the week of cider-related events was actually the brainchild of Town Hall Tap back in 2010, but the establishment has given the event over to the cider guild now that it's formed, a news release says.

And the 2017 Minnesota Cider Week, which runs from June 5-10 in the Twin Cities, promises to be jam-packed with different events. Not everything has been announced yet, but the guild says it'll include cider-pairing dinners, cider trivia events, and home-brewing competitions.

The week will end with the Craft Cider Festival on Saturday, June 10, at City Place in St. Paul. This is the only festival in the state that's dedicated to only cider, the release says.

People who go will get to try 50 different ciders, including from 12 Minnesota cider makers. You can buy tickets online here – they're $30, plus taxes and fees.

More about the guild

The nonprofit Minnesota Cider Guild officially launched April 3 with 12 members (nine cider makers and three cideries that are in the works), with the goal of promoting Minnesota-made ciders.

“The Minnesota cider industry is very young, with the majority of cider makers launching their businesses within the last four years,” guild president Gretchen Perbix, who runs Sweetland Orchard in Webster, said in the release. “We have tremendous support among our local consumer audiences, so by bringing together our collective ideas and talents, we will be able to continue to build interest, momentum, and consumption of our local ciders.”

The guild hopes to eventually expand membership to include apple growers and other cider enthusiasts.

Currently, there are 16 cider producers in Minnesota, with several cideries in the works, the release says.
