Search crews on Thursday found the body of a 78-year-old Minnetonka man who was reported missing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area near the Canadian border. Ontario Provincial Police said Richard Barber's body was found in Basswood Lake within Quetico Provincial Park.

Authorities had been conducting aerial, ground and underwater searches Thursday, WDIO reports.

Barber and his wife Elaine had been on a dream canoe trip that turned into a nightmare Sunday, the Star Tribune reports. The two lost control of their canoe in river rapids and it tipped over, the newspaper reports. She was able to swim to safety, but she watched her husband struggle and then he disappeared, the newspaper reports.

“I was pretty sure he went down,” she told the Star Tribune.“Everything is such a blur.”

Elaine Barber, 75, triggered a signal on an emergency locator her sons had insisted the couple take with them, and rescuers found her Monday.

The couple had been together for 31 years, married for 19, the Star Tribune reports.
