An 18 year old from Minnetonka crashed into a lake near Alexandria and survived Friday night.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, 18-year-old Maxwell David Guderian was flying a single engine Piper "Archer" and conducting "touch and goes" when he lost power, forcing him to attempt an emergency landing.

Guderian attempted to land his aircraft on the water of Lake Winona, which is located on the west side of Alexandria, with the south end of the lake very close to the Alexandria airport.

Guderian was not injured in the crash landing and was able to get out of the plane and stand on its roof while awaiting a rescue crew.

The Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the crash.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m.
