Missing 'Mr. Movies' founder contacted, reported safe

The co-founder of the former Twin Cities-based Mr. Movies video chain store has been contacted by authorities, more than two weeks after he went missing in Montana, the Missoulian reports.

Investigators in Montana have been searching for David Kaiser, 53. He was last seen June 28, just two days after he opened a new business, a cafe in Victor in west-central Montana. Authorities tracked him down and were in contact on Monday, and they reported that he is safe, the Star Tribune reports.

But Kaiser would not give a statement without a lawyer, so it's not clear where he has been or what he has been doing, Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman told the Montana newspaper.

Investigators say they intend to find out more about why the divorced father of two disappeared, the Missoulian reported.

Kaiser moved to Montana from Edina about four years ago, the Star Tribune reports. He ran as a Libertarian Party candidate for the U.S. House in Montana in 2012, and he got 4 percent of the vote.
