Mississippi River drowning victim near Hastings identified as Florida man

The man died in a drowning accident Nov. 14.

The identity of a drowning victim in the Mississippi River near Hastings has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office announced Wednesday that 44-year-old Micah Kevin Pittman, of Milton, Florida, died of an accidental freshwater drowning Nov. 14 at Point Douglas Beach in Denmark Township.

Pittman was transported to Regina Medical Center in Hastings and pronounced dead at 2:57 p.m., Nov. 14. It is unclear how Pittman ended up in the water.

Point Douglas Park is where the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers converge along the Minnesota and Wisconsin border.

Pittman's obituary says he played three summers for a baseball team in Julich, Germany, and was a social work in Alabama before working as a tugboat mate.

The incident was investigated by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the United States Coast Guard.
