A Minnesota man who admitted to killing his wife 18 years after her disappearance was sentenced Friday to 160 months in prison, WCCO reports.

In October, Norman Bachman Jr. was arrested, and admitted to strangling and dismembering his wife. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The Star Tribune says Bachman made his confession matter-of-factly on the witness stand, explaining that in the days after the killing he’d used a filet knife and hand saw to decapitate his wife and remove her limbs.

Toni Bachman disappeared in 1997, shortly after sending an email to a friend from the couple's White Bear Township residence, saying her husband was "on his way home to fight. And I MEAN FIGHT," according to the criminal complaint. The two were reportedly having marriage problems.

Toni Bachman has not been seen or heard from since. Her body has not been recovered.

The Ramsey County Sheriff reopened the case in 2012. Norman Bachman had maintained his innocence until the agreement announced Friday.

During sentencing Friday, the judge told Bachman, "You are a terrible person," the Pioneer Press reports.
