MNsure fixes glitch as another surfaces

Minnesota's new online health insurance marketplace continues to draw interest amid glitches, one of which was fixed in time for a new one to pop up, the Star Tribune reported.

The glitch on the MNsure site that has been fixed had prevented some state residents from shopping for health coverage last week. The new glitch blocks users from creating an account so they can't buy insurance, but the problem is intermittent and affects fewer people, the Star Tribune notes.

MNsure officials expect the new issue will be fixed quickly and that MNsure's second week will be smoother than the first, MNsure executive director April Todd-Malmlov said, MPR reported.

Almost 6,000 people have created MNsure accounts since the site went live Oct. 1. “We are very excited to see the number of accounts increasing," April Todd-Malmlov told the Star Tribune. The site got more than 4,000 unique visitors on Monday, the Star Tribune reports.

The Pioneer Press talks to people who have been shopping for insurance on the site, some of whom had positive things to say, and others who were left confused.

MNsure officials expect as many as 1 million Minnesotans will use MNsure to obtain insurance. The new state-run website grew out of the Affordable Health Care Act, often called Obamacare, which allows states to run their own health care insurance exchanges.

MNsure continues to actively advertise the new marketplace. The U of M newspaper The Minnesota Daily reports that state officials have been targeting young people – a key demographic to the insurance exchange's success - with social media.
