MNsure says website, call center running smoothly ahead of Monday's deadline

Officials with Minnesota's health insurance exchange said things were running smoothly the day before the enrollment deadline.

MNsure spokeswoman Jenni Bowring-McDonough told the Associated Press Sunday that the website had been stable all weekend and the call center was adequately staffed.

At the end of last week, MNsure call centers had experienced a surge in calls and officials had warned callers they could experience longer wait times. Website glitches and long hold times have plagued MNsure since open enrollment began.

The deadline for open enrollment is 11:59 p.m. on Monday. Uninsured Minnesotans could face federal tax penalties under the federal Affordable Care Act. MNsure said it will grant reprieves for people who make an effort to enroll, but can't complete the process before the deadline, the Associated Press says.

More than 152,000 Minnesotans have already enrolled in MNsure coverage, however, it's not known how many of the 400,000 perviously uninsured Minnesotans have enrolled. In October, MNsure set a goal to enroll 135,000 people, it passed that goal a little less than a week before Monday's deadline.

MNSure plans to hold more than 50 sign-up events across the state on Monday, the Associated Press says.
