'Mobiliary' moves Roseville student, 13, on to National Spelling Bee

Thanks to the correct spelling of the word "mobiliary," a 13-year-old Roseville student is moving on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., the Pioneer Press reports.

Jacob Lahti of Parkview Center School got the word right at the seven-county metro-area regional spelling bee Saturday at Augsburg College in Minneapolis.

Mobiliary, by the way, means "of or relating to movable property."

Lahti, who lives in Little Canada, also gave the right spelling to the word, "Rembrandt" -- as in the name of the famous painter.

KARE-TV reports that last year's regional winner, home-schooled Elise Stahl, 13, of Greenfield, took third place in Saturday's competition. Nidhi Jois, 10, of Forest Hills Elementary School, took second.

In all, 50 middle- and junior-high school age students competed in Saturday's spelling bee.

The National Spelling Bee is set for May.

Five students from Minnesota competed in last year's national competition.
