Mohamed Noor intends to plead not guilty in Justine Damond killing

A court filing signals Mohamed Noor's intended plea.

Former police officer Mohamed Noor intends to plead not guilty to the murder and manslaughter of Justine Damond.

The ex-Minneapolis officer has been charged with 3rd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter of the 40-year-old Australian native near her Minneapolis home last July.

But according to a court filing, Noor intends to use self-defense and reasonable force as his justification for the fatal shooting.

A press conference held by Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman last month revealed that Noor's partner, Officer Matthew Harrity, had also drawn his weapon prior to Damond's shooting after hearing a thump near their squad car.

Moments later, Damond appeared at the window of the vehicle wearing her pajamas, at which point she was shot dead by Noor.

Damond had called the police earlier after hearing what she thought was a rape to the rear of their home.

But in the same press conference, Freeman said that in the short time between Damond approaching their squad car and Noor firing his shot, there was "no evidence" Noor encountered, appreciated, investigated or confirmed a threat.

"He recklessly and intentionally fired his handgun from the passenger seat with disregard for human life," Freeman said.
