Mom dies from gunshot weeks after her son was killed by Amtrak officer

An event to honor the woman and her son is planned for Wednesday night.

A woman who was shot outside a biker hangout in Minneapolis over the weekend has died.

The victim, who had been listed in critical condition at the hospital after being shot in the head, died Wednesday morning, Minneapolis police said.

Officials haven't identified the victim, but the Star Tribune and social media posts say the woman who died is 45-year-old Candice Hackett. She's the mother of 25-year-old Chad Robertson, the man who was fatally shot by an Amtrak police officer in Chicago back in February.

A Justice for Chad Robertson rally, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Union Depot in St. Paul, will go on as planned, posts in the Facebook event say.

One of the organizers of the event encouraged people to come to the event, saying, "if nothing else come out and cry with us, grieve with us and lets honor them with a determination not to go on ... without confronting this system that we know in our guts is killing us."

The shooting

Police said the shooting happened around 1:26 a.m. Sunday on 2626 Golden Valley Road in Minneapolis, which is a private motorcycle bar, according to WCCO.

When officers responded, they found an adult woman who had been shot in the head and a man who had been stabbed in the abdomen. A second man was also shot in the ankle during the incident, police said. Both men are expected to survive.

Following the shooting, police arrested two men. But KSTP says they've both been released without being charged.

Minneapolis police said Wednesday it has four detectives assigned to the case, and anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to contact the police department. To do so anonymously, you can text your tip to 847411 – all you have to do is type in MPD, a space, and the information.

You can also call the department's tip line at 612-692-8477.
