Moo-ve please: Cows stroll down street in downtown Red Wing

Six cows were found wandering the streets of downtown Red Wing Wednesday night, apparently having gotten free from a local farmer.

The Rochester Post-Bulletin says the cows were spotted just before 11 p.m. Drivers on the road had to carefully go around the herd of a half dozen.

The Red Wing Police Department says the half dozen Holstein cows were corralled. Goodhue County Sheriff's Deputies found a local rancher to care for the animals until the owner was located.

Sometime later a farmer contacted police, saying his trailer gate came open while traveling through Red Wing and he was missing – you guessed it – six cows.

No damage reported, and the cows were returned to their owner.
