If you're looking for a refreshing taste of drinking water, apparently Moorhead is the best place in Minnesota to find it.

The Associated Press reports that the city of Moorhead won the "Best in Glass" title for best drinking water from the Minnesota chapter of the American Water Works Association in Duluth this week.

Moorhead competed against 13 other cities in the state for the title.

The city also won the title in 2009 and 2010.

Duluth took the title last year, Northland's NewsCenter said. International Falls won the title in 2012.

The AP says Moorhead will next compete at the American Water Works Association's annual national conference in Anaheim, California, in June 2015.

The city of Moorhead details the work that goes into preserving its drinking water quality in its 2013 Drinking Water Report.

The report says the city in 2013 made improvements to water quality, equipment efficiency, and infrastructure security. About 80 percent of Moorhead’s water is surface water from the Red River, and the rest is ground water pumped from seven wells ranging in depth from 114 feet to 273 feet, the report notes.

The report also says that since 1986, Moorhead’s water system has undergone more than $20 million in improvements, including the completion of a state-of-the-art Water Treatment Plant in 1995.

"The bottom line is this: Moorhead’s Water Treatment Plant produces water that meets all current water-quality standards set by the U.S. EPA and is well-prepared to comply with future standards," the report says.
