Moorhead man pleads not guilty after child's death in hot car

Andrew Sandstrom, charged in the death of his 5-month-old daughter, who was left for about four hours in a hot minivan, has pleaded not guilty, WCCO reports.

On June 11, an 80-degree day, the 24-year-old Moorhead father had five other children with him at the time, ages 7 years and younger, police say. He dropped his wife at work and unloaded the other kids when they returned to the family apartment, but he has said he forgot to remove the baby from the vehicle. He called 911 when he realized what had happened, the Star Tribune reported.

The other children are now in foster care. Social workers had cited filthy conditions in the home, which had a toilet that didn't work, the Star Tribune noted.

Sandstrom has been charged with second-degree manslaughter charges, and a trial has been scheduled for October.
