Moorhead school teachers shave their heads to support 8th grader battling cancer

The school wanted to show that "no one fights alone."

Friday, students at a Moorhead middle school crowded around their teachers for a special show – several teachers were getting their hair shaved off.

It was all to support 14-year-old Caleigh Jordahl Damm – an eighth grader at Horizon Middle School.

According to a Facebook post by the school, she's been dealing with brain cancer for six years. The cancer has been been on and off, and she's back to getting treatments, a GoFundMe page says.

In a video, the young girl talks about how she really doesn't like that the treatments make her miss school and lose her hair.

So school staff decided to help. First, they held a fundraiser and raised more than $5,000 in one week for Caleigh. Then – since the school reached its goal – several teachers donned salon capes and had their hair shaved off in front of the school.

Teachers told WDAY they wanted to show Caleigh that "no one fights alone," and that "bald is beautiful."

A video posted to YouTube shows the phrases decorating the school.

You can watch videos of the head shaving here and here.
