A 16-year-old from Moorhead, who on Tuesday said he fatally beat a man that had molested him for years, has now changed his story.

WDAY reports the teenager now tells authorities his confession was just an attempt to protect his older brother, who is actually responsible for the death of 55-year-old Bradley Carrington in a Moorhead mobile home over the weekend.

That man, 20-year-old Anthony Rodrigeuz, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder without intent, Forum reports.

Carrington was found dead in the mobile home on Sunday, and the teenager initially told investigators he punched and kicked the man in the face and head multiple times, then left the scene when he was dead, Valley News Live reports.

According to the Dickinson Press, the teen also told authorities Carrington had been sexually abusing him for years – and that he “saw an opportunity” when he was drinking with him Saturday night. Authorities were looking for Rodriguez even after charging the teenager.

According to the criminal complaint now filed against Rodriguez, however, he confronted Carrington about the molestation claims at the trailer Saturday after seeing his teen brother in distress, WDAY reports.

Rodriguez told investigators he hit Carrington twice and left, according to the complaint, noting he wanted to beat up Carrington, but not kill him.

Two of Carrington's sisters told the Forum the man cared for the 16-year-old like a son; one of them also told the paper her brother was not a child molester.
