More body parts found in 2nd area of Northeast Minneapolis

Police are looking for additional body parts.

Police say additional body parts have been found in another location in Northeast Minneapolis, and they believe the victim is a white man in his 30s.

A person reported the initial discovery of the body parts on the 300 block of Northeast Main Street, near the Mississippi River, at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, police said. FOX 9 said a leg was discovered.

Later Thursday, police recovered more body parts in the area of University Avenue and Northeast Third Street, Minneapolis police John Elder told reporters Thursday evening.

"We don't know where this body came from," Elder said, noting the "Body may have been dead before it met its trauma — we don't know that."

The incident did happen recently though. Elder said the body parts appear to be "fresh," adding that investigators believe they belong to a white man in his 30s, but they have not yet ID'd the victim.

Police are considering this a homicide and are investigating it as such because the removal of such body parts would not have been survivable.

The remains discovered thus far do not make up an entire body. Elder is asking people to be vigilant of their surroundings and call 911 if anyone sees something suspicious or that could be part of this crime.

Police are working with the Minnesota Search and Rescue Association, which brought in search dogs and cadaver dogs to help look for additional remains, but no additional body parts have been found, Edler said.

Investigators have been looking for evidence that could point them to the person who committed the crime, Elder said. They are reviewing missing person reports and working with the medical examiner in hopes of identifying the victim.
