More details emerge in probe of Mpls. officer in underage sex case

Court documents are revealing more details in the alleged online solicitation of underage girls for sex by a Minneapolis police officer, the Pioneer Press reports.

The officer, 32-year-old Bradley Schnickel, was charged earlier this month in Anoka County Court with six felonies, after being accused of using social media to start up off-duty sexual encounters with girls between the ages of 12 and 14.

According to a search warrant application and supporting affidavit filed Friday, Brooklyn Center police began their investigation into the case Oct. 24, 2012, after learning of a sexually explicit exchange between a Facebook account holder who identified himself as "Brady Schmidt," and an 11-year-old girl.

The document said a search warrant for the account holder's profile, along with friends and messages associated with the account, led police to Schnickel.

Social media sites turned over more than 9,000 pages of online communications, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Schnickel started with Minneapolis Police in 2008. The force announced that he was no longer employed there after he was charged on Feb. 8.

Schnickel made bail and was released from jail Feb. 8, and ordered not to have contact with any underage girls.
