Body found in Forest Lake by morel hunter identified as missing man

Police confirmed that the body belonged to Mark Kurtz.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m. 

The body found in a wooded area in Forest Lake on Thursday morning has been identified as missing 55-year-old Mark Kurtz.

Kurtz walked away from his home on Apr. 23, and was last seen a short time after at a Holiday station store.

"There is no evidence of foul play, no threat to the community, and we are not searching for any suspects," Forest Lake PD said in a press release.

A man searching for morel mushrooms came across a body in Forest Lake on Thursday morning.

The Forest Lake Police Department said the body was found in a wooded area behind the CenturyLink building at 91 11th Avenue Southwest around 9:30 a.m.

The wooded area is also behind a Pizza Hut and a small retail park that includes an Ace Hardware and the Willowbrook Community Church.

Police are now working to identify the body, though no foul play is suspected in the death.

More information is expected to be released when the body has been seen by the Ramsey County medical examiner's office.

Last month, Forest Lake PD issued an appeal to find a missing 55-year-old man.

The department didn't comment when asked by the Pioneer Press if the cases were linked.
