Most of MN will get some light snow before temps drop midweek

Cold weather ahead.

Most of Minnesota is expected to get some light snow this weekend before temps drop midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, the highs in the Twin Cities this weekend will be in the 30s, with lows just below freezing.

The area could get up to two inches of snow through Sunday. Then Monday, things will warm up a bit, making for a chance of rain.

Things won't be much different in northern parts of the state. Forecasts say Duluth could get up to two inches of snow over the weekend, and the very northeast corner could see three inches.

So compared to the snowstorm we had before Thanksgiving where some areas saw two feet of snow, this will just be a nice little snowfall.

Colder weather ahead

Enjoy the mild temperatures while you can, because things are about to get significantly colder.

The NWS says the Twin Cities and southern parts of the state could see highs of just 15-20 degrees starting Wednesday.

According to the Weather Channel's 10 day forecast, temperatures will linger around there through the following Monday when highs could get back up to 26 degrees in the Twin Cities. But the following Tuesday, the low is expected to be around 3 degrees.

Similar weather is expected in northern parts of the state – just a few degrees cooler. Nothing below zero (yet).
