One of Hennepin County's "Most Wanted" fugitives has been captured in New Jersey.

Alex Yupa, 22, has been on Hennepin County's Most Wanted list for nearly two-and-a-half-years on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, after being accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile in 2011.

Acting on information from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshals Service captured Yupa on Tuesday in Newark, it said in a news alert.

"The capture of Alex Yupa is the result of smart investigating and persistence by law enforcement," Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said.

Yupa is the fourth fugitive on the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office "Most Wanted" list arrested in the past two months, according to the department.

Mark Papasodora (wanted on third-degree assault by strangulation charges) was taken into custody in June, while Peter Tester (first-degree burglary) and Todd Lowe (first-degree criminal sexual conduct) were arrested in May.

According to a criminal complaint filed against Yupa, the victim was 13 years old at the time of the assault, which occurred Feb. 21-22, 2011. The victim told him to stop after he began engaging in sexual contact, but he continued until she slapped him, the complaint says. He's also charged with providing beer to the minor

A few days later on Feb. 26, the complaint says Yupa made "serious threats" against the victim on Facebook.

An acquaintance investigators spoke to said Yupa, aware of the charges, fled to Chicago shortly after the incident is said to have occurred, according to the complaint.

He remained active on Facebook, at one point posting a comment that he was "waiting for the cops," which HCSO said suggested he was aware of the outstanding arrest warrant.

Yupa remains in New Jersey for now, awaiting extradition to Minnesota.
