A daughter was killed and her mother injured after the two were hit while crossing a street in St. Paul, according to reports.

The St. Paul Police Department said the fatal accident happened on Kellogg Boulevard, near the Minnesota Historical Society.

KSTP reports the daughter, 24, and her 64-year-old mother were crossing Kellogg around 7:30 p.m. According to FOX 9, police say a driver in the left-hand lane didn't stop, striking both women.

The Star Tribune reports both were taken to Regions Hospital, where the daughter was pronounced dead. Her mother is expected to survive.

KARE 11 says the driver is cooperating.

Google Street View shows there are no stop signs or stoplights for vehicles traveling along that stretch of Kellogg Boulevard. However, there are signs marking pedestrian crosswalks at Mulberry Street, where the mother and daughter were hit.

The Department of Public Safety says, on average, 30 pedestrians and 10 bicyclists are killed as a result of collisions with vehicles each year. Nearly 7 in 10 of those deaths happen in urban areas.

Forty pedestrians died in traffic incidents across Minnesota last year – up significantly from 2014, when 16 people were killed.

Those 40 fatalities made up about 10 percent of all road deaths in 2015.
