Motorcycle hits electrical pole in St. Cloud, killing teen

A teenage boy from St. Cloud was killed Thursday afternoon after riding his motorcycle into an electrical pole.

The crash happened on Veterans Drive at 25th Avenue North around 3:30 p.m., according to St. Cloud Police Department, with the 17-year-old dying at the scene.

Police say he was riding west on Veterans drive when he veered onto a sidewalk after crossing the intersection at 25th, hitting a pole.

The victim has not yet been identified, with his name expected to be released in the coming days.

There has been a huge increase in deaths of Minnesota roads so far in 2021, with 193 fatalities reported so far this year compared to 136 at the same point in 2020.

Despite the pandemic seeing fewer people on the roads last year, 2020 still ended with the highest death toll since 2015.
