A motorcyclist was killed in the northern Twin Cities when he was in a collision with a pickup truck.

The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. in Ham Lake, with the Anoka County Sheriff's Office saying it happened when a pickup was trying to turn left from northbound Lexington Avenue onto Bunker Lake Blvd NE.

The motorcycle was southbound on Lexington, and was going through the intersection when it was struck by the pickup.

The motorcyclist, a 67-year-old man from Minneapolis, died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.

The pickup driver, a 44-year-old man from Ham Lake, was not injured.

Police say that alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor, but the incident remains under investigation.

The crash caused the southbound Lexington to be closed for several hours while the scene was processed by investigators.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released at this time.
